As strange stories go this is right up there with the best of them.
A group of rich Germans have started a petition demanding that the government there TAX them more. The group want to raise ?100billion over two years to be spent on education, ecological schemes and social issues. I know. I nearly fell off my chair too. What next? MP's pleading to be allowed to give their expenses back? Nick Griffin converting to Islam? George Bush deciding its high time he completed his military service and volunteering for a stint in Afghanistan? I apologise for being a sarcastic twat but really, what else did you expect?
Alas so far it doesn't seem to have sparked too much enthusiasm among the wealthier denizens of Deutchland. By the groups own figures 2.2 million people would fall into their new tax bracket of whom a slightly less than overwelming 44 have signed up. Still, its a start I suppose. From tiny acorns and all that. I won't however hold my breath waiting for Alan Sugar or David Beckham or someone suggesting a similar plan over here.....
